User Journey Map
With our personas in mind, we created this user journey map to visualize the actions, thoughts, and feelings a user might go through in creating and distributing music. The map is divided into two sections, creating music and distributing music.

About our Journey Maps
The creation portion of the map show the iterative process that a musician goes through when making a new song. We chose to focus on the recording and producing aspects of this process since they are usually the most complicated. These steps are complicated because they involve many different tools such as instruments, recording gear, software, etc. They can also involve other people, as some musicians work with producers and the like.
The second phase of the process is distributing music. This involves posting the music on various sites, sharing to social media, interacting with other musicians, booking live shows, and more. This is a very important phase in the user’s journey because it revolves around becoming a part of their music community.
Takeaways
Making this journey map and using it throughout the rest of the process taught us the importance of data visualization when it comes to user experience. We also incorporated critique given to us on visual communication. We learned the importance of flow, labeling, and priority when it comes to a large, dense document like this.

The user journey map helped us map out all of the highs and lows in a musician’s experience with recording and releasing music. We were able to analyze where the most pain points clustered, which ended up being the processes of producing music and uploading it online.
